![]() I love the Knipex automatic wire stripper (Knipex 12 62 180), but like you said, it won't really do THHN. Any sort of somewhat thick or hard wire jacket, they just won't do it. I want to like automatic strippers so bad. If I went with dedicated strippers than obviously I would also have to get some pliers as well, but maybe that's a better route than an all-in-one tool? Or maybe I should get dedicated strippers such as Klein 1019SEN or one of those fancy automatic ones? I've never used the automatic kind so I'm not sure how worthwhile or reliable they would be for me. There may also be other tools that I'm not aware of yet. However, I've also been strongly considering the Klein J206-8C Long Nose All-Purpose Pliers, Klein Kurve Heavy-Duty K12035, and the Milwaukee 6-in-1 Pliers which are all similar tools with minor differences here and there. The front looks a little long but otherwise they seem like they'd do everything I need except for stripping ethernet cable which I'm ok with. Right now I'm thinking that the Knipex 13 72 8 Forged Wire Strippers might be the best choice. Very occasionally I may deal with ethernet cable which I believe is usually 24ga to 28ga solid. NM is not allowed at all and MC is highly restricted (I might deal with it 2-3 times in the next 10 years) so the only other wire I'm likely to encounter is the thinner stranded wiring leads (16ga to 20-ish maybe?) that light fixtures, bathroom exhaust fans, and similar devices have. I'm in the Chicago suburbs so EVERYTHING is 12ga or 14ga solid wire in conduit. My tasks will be replacing outlets, switches, and light fixtures. Until now I've been using one of those cheap giant black stamped stripper crimper combo tools and both slip-joint and needle nose pliers. Replacing all my hand tools and this week I'm looking at wire strippers and combination pliers. No Amazon affiliate links (they'll be removed by the Automod).
